A very private concert

So, this was my first time at the Montalvo Arts Center in Saratoga, CA. The Wallflowers were going to play and this has been one of my favorite bands - at least from the list on non-mainstream kinds. Jakob Dylan, in my opinion is one of the most gifted singers and songwriters. I did check the pulse with the crowd and no one seemed interested. I know a few guitar players in my group of friends and was surprised that folks did not want to see Stuart Mathis in action. Anyways, my wife felt that I'd probably have more fun without the toddler. So I just bought one ticket!!

Parking is limited in Montalvo, and I parked my car at the west valley college and took a shuttle to the venue. As the shuttle took us to the venue up the winding mountainous roads, I could see some very nice multi-million dollar mansions. An inner glimpse of the real saratoga mountain living :)

The venue itself was very very cool. It had a very personal, private and elegant touch to the place. I was expecting big stalls selling t-shirts, beer and food. But it was a very small set up. the place could probably hold no more than 500 people I think.
The ushers, the staff were all extremely friendly. Security check? whats that? there was none.
"The Pictures", a band from New York opened it for the Wallflowers. Very "tom Petty" kinda music. Very soothing. I was seated about 25 feet from the stage. Row D, Seat 3.

After about 45 mins or so of good warm up and a intermission, the Wallflowers kicked in at 8pm. The next 2 hours felt like forever! With a very scenic setting of trees behind us, sprawling lawns to our sides, I thoroughly enjoyed Jakob's husky melancholic voice accompanied by Stuart Mathis' exceptional guitar playing. Of course, I had someone else keep me company all the while - IPA Indian Pale Ale.

Here is the playlist

:

They were very very calm and composed while playing. The crowd wasnt the exhuberant kinds either. Both the artists and the crowd adapted to each other's tempo over the course of the performance.

Here is how i saw the concert.

All in all, an excellent wednesday evening out! Peru, Amit, I think you guys would have really enjoyed it.

If you like a band in the line up at Montalvo, DONT MISS IT. Its as close to a personal performance you're gonna get!

For you Blues fans out there, Buddy Guys is lined up to play August 15th! Get your tickets! Unfortunately for me, as luck would have it, I'll be camping under the stars and some redwoods in Sequioa national park that weekend. But you should feel free to rock the house with Buddy!

Perspective - A really powerful thing.

Over the last few months, I've been at emotional crossroads in my life trying to figure out a few things. Its always so hard to remove yourself from a situation and see things clearer. Its easier said than done.

A friend sent me this last week and I thought I should share this. I recalled Steve Jobs' commencement speech at Stanford in 2005, and thought these two videos seem very powerful together.

Nickleback: Today Was Your Last Day

My best friend gave me the best advice
He said each day's a gift and not a given right
Leave no stone unturned, leave your fears behind
And try to take the path less traveled by
That first step you take is the longest stride

If today was your last day
and tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
If today was your last day

Against the grain should be a way of life
What's worth the prize is always worth the fight
Every second counts 'cause there's no second try
So live like you'll never live it twice
Don't take the free ride in your own life

If today was your last day
and tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
Would you call old friends you never see?
Reminisce of memories
Would you forgive your enemies?
Would you find that one you're dreamin' of?
Swear up and down to God above
That you finally fall in love
If today was your last day

If today was your last day
Would you make your mark by mending a broken heart?
You know it's never too late to shoot for the stars
Regardless of who you are
So do whatever it takes
'Cause you can't rewind a moment in this life
Let nothin' stand in your way
Cause the hands of time are never on your side

If today was your last day
and tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?

Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
Would you call old friends you never see?
Reminisce of memories
Would you forgive your enemies?
Would you find that one you're dreamin' of?
Swear up and down to God above
That you finally fall in love
If today was your last day

2 weeks for a drive from santa barbara to mountain view? LUDACRIS!

Pardon the venting, but it took the ship 2 weeks to get from the UK to the santa barbara coast through the panama canal on a slow moving ship. Now its the same time, and our Mini still hasnt arrived in mountain view - 11 days after it made landfall. The dealer already got a earful of voicemails from me this last week, but now its insane. Its driving me up the wall. Folks all the way up in sacremento and further north, who had thier cars on the same ship as I did, received thier babies early this week. I think its time for me to go personally confront the dealer. Boys, here I come....

The bird has landed!

OK, after a couple of weeks of frantic tracking on the atlantic and through the panama canal and its final course to Port hueneme, the mother ship ISOLDE finally hit the port as of yesterday. Here are the details and some pics of the ship at port hueneme in santa barbara, CA.

Here is a picture of the ISOLDE, actually docked in port hueneme, CA

Now its just a matter of a week or so, before all the paperwork gets done at the port of entry, the car gets inspected at the Mini/BMW VDC(vehicle distribution center), gets loaded on a truck and arrives at the dealership. Man this week, will be the longest :)
